Tips for Success:

Step by Step Instructions

1. Now that you have decided to apply, keep the 2023 Awards and Scholarships Brochure and the 2023 Eligibility Guide close by. These will help you know which scholarships you should apply for. Applying for scholarships for which you don't meet the criteria doesn't look good. You will be required to explain your qualifications for each award that you choose to apply for (50 – 100 words per award). Without this explanation, you will not be considered for the scholarship.

2. Use the Applicant Login box on the right-hand side of this page to register and pay the annual, non-refundable application processing fee of $30. Only one fee is required per applicant, this covers all of the awards for which you are applying.  Instructions for accessing your application will be sent to you with the confirmation of your payment.

3. There are 5 tabs that you must complete.
Academic: Provide all details about your current program and other education.
References: Ensure that you have asked two people to submit reference letters on your behalf. It will help if you give them enough time for this task: begin well before the deadline. Note that letters must be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and must be in our office by February 6, 2023. You also need to provide contact information for your referees on the ‘References’ tab of the application.
RESOURCES:
Reference Letter Guidelines (be sure to share these with your referees)
Career: Enter your goal statement (no more than 500 words) in the top field. Note: this section of the application is heavily weighted in the judging process.
Upload your resume.

Awards: Find the sections of awards for which you are qualified. (Note: Applying for scholarships for which you don't meet the criteria doesn't look good, and may negatively affect your score.)  Keep the 2023 Awards and Scholarships Brochure and the Instructions for Explanations documents close by. These will help you know what skills, interests, and strengths you should refer to when you explain your qualifications for each award that you apply for (50 – 100 words per award). Without this explanation, you will not be considered for the scholarship.
In order to apply for a Research Award, you must upload your research proposal at the bottom of the Awards tab. Be sure to read the instructions provided.

Application Status: There is only one field for applicants to complete on this tab, but if you miss it, your application will not be reviewed.
You must click on the dropdown menu and select "Complete".  If your application is not marked "Complete" complete, it will not be reviewed.
Selecting 'Complete' does not affect your access to the site; you can return to make changes until the deadline.
Please note: there is no confirmation sent when you change your status to "Complete".  If it shows as complete, we will review it.
This tab is also where you can track our receipt of your supplementary documents.  Do not call or email the office to check on documents before January 30.

4. In addition to the reference letters noted above, the following supplementary documents must be provided by February 6, 2023 for your application to be complete.
Confirmation of enrollment:  For almost all awards, you will need to submit proof of enrollment in the Winter 2023 term. Acceptable documentation consists of an official statement from the Nursing Program office or the Registrar’s office of your university/college, stating that you are enrolled in the Winter 2023 program. Many schools have documents available on-line that will confirm enrollment and are available without cost. Applicants should e-mail this document as an attachment to the message (.pdf .doc .docx or .txt formats only) to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Letters of admission or proof of payment documents are not acceptable proof of enrollment.
Transcripts: All applications must be supported by transcripts. All transcripts must be official documents that include your grades for the Fall 2022 term. Contact your university/college to send your official transcript directly to the RNFOO office. Some schools are able to send official transcripts electronically or by fax (contact information is below). Digital documents which are noted as “Issued by University/ College” and are received directly from the institution’s administrative account or are provided to us through a secure on-line platform to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., will be accepted as official. Printed transcripts may also be available. These must be mailed to the RNFOO office in an officially sealed envelope. You should allow at least two weeks for transcripts to be delivered from Ontario institutions.
Applicants with 1 or 2 previous degrees or diplomas should note that in order to have the best opportunity to score your academic ability and accomplishments, reviewers will be interested in all of your previous transcripts, along with your current one.  For applicants with 3 or more previous degrees or diplomas, submitting official transcripts from previous nursing-related post-secondary education is enough. The transcript from your current program must be provided.
GRADUATE LEVEL STUDENTS: If you have submitted official transcripts for previous degrees in RNFOO applications submitted before this year, you may not have to order those transcripts again. You will still have to provide an up-to-date transcript for your current studies.
You must contact the RNFOO office to request and confirm that your previous transcripts are available.
